CO2ALITION 3.0: THE NEW 2024 PROGRAM HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED

On March 27 CO2alition's new program and Community model was officially launched, which will accompany member companies throughout the year. Being part of CO2alition means making a concrete commitment to accelerate toward the common goal of climate neutrality.

To put this vision into practice, through an increasingly active participation of member companies, the new 2024 working model leverages the three main elements of our Manifesto: putting into practice a credible corporate pathway to decarbonization; giving rise to a collaborative movement of companies innovating, exchanging ideas, strategies, best practices and tools; and constantly and fairly communicating and demonstrating initiatives and achievements.

The ultimate goal of this year's work will be the preparation of an Annual Report, to be presented in December, capable of returning a snapshot of the journey shared by all member companies and the results achieved by the Community.

The 5 macro themes and related goals identified for 2024 are:

  1. Climate Neutrality in the Bylaws and Climate Governance: each CO2alliance company inserts a climate neutrality goal within the corporate purpose of its bylaws and develops a governance model to honor and pursue it. In doing so, it gives this goal equal importance to profit, thus giving management a new mandate.

  2. Carbon Footprint and Emission Reduction Targets: in order to have a clear picture of where you are and where you want to go on your journey, you need to start with the organization's Carbon Footprint, which provides a picture of the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions, whether produced directly (Scope 1) or indirectly by an organization's activities, products or services (Scope 2 and 3). Co2alition member companies master, or are in the process of mastering, their emissions footprint and have set reduction targets in line with the Paris Accords and European targets.

  3. Transition away from fossil fuels: taking direct reference from the commitment signed by member states during COP28 to move away from the use of fossil fuels (transitioning away), member companies set an energy strategy consistent with the European Union's transition goals, based on the use of renewable energy.

  4. Scope 3-value chain: Scope 3 accounts for the most significant percentage of emissions for most companies, so it becomes critical to map their ecosystem, analyze their impacts along the supply chain, and set up a plan to engage their partners to achieve decarbonization goals. CO2alition member companies become proactive transition players within their own value chain.

  5. Advocacy and stewardship: engaging territories and local communities, raising awareness of climate change issues is key to settling and accelerating the transition. Member companies engage their ecosystems and transparently communicate their commitment to climate neutrality.

Around these goals and macro themes are developed 5 working groups that meet throughout the year to collect and exchange information needed for the final Report but also to delve into focuses closely related to the macro theme and of interest to member companies.

The schedule of working group meetings throughout the year (all from 5 to 6 p.m.):

  • bylaws and climate governance: April 23 and Sept. 10

  • footprint and emissions reduction targets: May 9 and Sept. 26

  • transition away from fossil fuels: May 28 and Oct. 10

  • scope 3- the value chain: June 10, 2024 and october 29, 2024
