Over 110 organisations urge Europe not to backtrack on Climate Transition Plans
The number of organisations calling loudly for Climate Transition Plans (CTPs) to remain a mandatory and central part of Europe’s climate neutrality strategy is growing. More than 110 organisations have signed a Position Statement initiated within the CO2alizione community and addressed to European legislators, clearly stating: the climate transition needs stable rules, concrete tools, and measurable commitments.
CTPs, a key component of EU regulations such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), are currently under debate. The proposed amendments to the EU sustainability directives, known as the "Omnibus package", set to be voted on by the European Parliament’s JURI Committee on October 13, suggest eliminating the obligation for companies to implement CTPs. This move would weaken a crucial lever for guiding the European industrial fabric towards climate neutrality.
Why Climate Transition Plans are essential
Climate Transition Plans are not just a bureaucratic formality. They are essential tools for a organisation’s long-term survival and competitiveness. They help businesses to:
plan investments more efficiently;
reduce exposure to climate-related costs and penalties;
ensure transparency and credibility with stakeholders, investors, and customers.
What the signatory organisations are asking to institutions
In the Position Statement, the more than 110 organisations make three main requests:
Maintain the obligation to implement Climate Transition Plans (CTPs) as currently required by CSRD and CSDDD;
Provide clear, pragmatic, and scalable guidelines on how to develop CTPs, applicable to all company sizes, including SMEs;
Offer concrete support and training pathways to develop the necessary skills for effective implementation of CTPs.

The growing number of signatories shows that a significant part of Europe’s economic fabric is not only ready for the climate transition, but also sees it as an opportunity—a lever for long-term survival and competitiveness—provided that institutions deliver a stable and coherent regulatory framework. The companies signing the statement are not asking for shortcuts, but for a clear playing field on which they can confidently invest in the future.
